Adding 2 New Shipping Routes Directly To The US From Cai Mep International Port in June 2021, Confirming The Great Import And Export Potential Between Vietnam And The US

In June 2021, two new shipping routes directly to the US from Cai Mep International Port were opened, bringing the total number of service routes to the US from this port to 19 routes/week.

Cai Mep International Port Company Limited (CMIT) was established in 2007 under the joint venture of Vietnam Maritime Company, Saigon Port and APM Port – a Danish container terminal operator. This is a deep-water container port at Cai Mep, Tan Thanh District, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, with an area of ​​48 hectares. CMIT has a 600 m long wharf with a capacity of more than 1.1 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), capable of receiving large container ships of up to 160,000 tons. With a modern system of port development and operation facilities, CMIT can provide high quality services to shipping lines and customers with the fastest speed from Vietnam to major markets such as Asia, Europe and America via direct international shipping routes.

In June 2021, two new shipping routes directly to the US from Cai Mep International Port were opened, bringing the total number of service routes to the US from this port to 19 routes/week.

On June 14, CMIT port successfully received the ship PORTO KAGIO of the Alliance of Shipping Lines 2M (Maersk & MSC) and ZIM – the first ship of the TP23/ LIBERTY/ZSE service route directly to the US. These three carriers already have 3 service routes to the US each week from Cai Mep port, and TP23 is the 4th shipping route. The vessel PORTO KAGIO successfully docked at Cai Mep port to handle more than 2,600 containers, equivalent to 5,000 TEUs of goods, further confirming the potential to exploit the transport route between CMIT and the US East Coast.

One of the newest service lines continuing to connect Cai Mep Port and the US East Coast is AWE6/VCE formed by COSCO and OOCL shipping lines. The first vessel COSCO HELLAS 096S has docked at Cai Mep port, and 2,000 containers equivalent to 3,500 TEUs of goods directly to the US have been unloaded. Up to now, these 2 lines have owned 3 service routes per week, connecting from Cai Mep port to the Americas.
